Ahmed Shehzad offers piece of advice to Sarfraz Ahmed

Pakistan Test cricketer Ahmed Shehzad has suggested that veteran player Sarfaraz Ahmed should reconsider his career direction.

Shehzad’s comments come as Sarfaraz, despite being retained as the backup wicket-keeper in Pakistan’s 15-member squad for the first Test against England, faces growing concerns about his age.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) recently announced the squad, marking the return of fast bowling all-rounder Aamir Jamal and left-arm spinner Noman Ali.

Sarfaraz, who mentored the Dolphins in the ongoing Champions One-Day Cup, will serve as the backup wicket-keeper alongside Mohammad Rizwan.

During the Champions One-Day Cup Eliminator 1, Jason Gillespie highlighted Sarfaraz’s advancing age and the need to give opportunities to young wicketkeepers. Gillespie praised Sarfaraz’s contributions to the team but emphasized the importance of exploring other options.

“Sarfaraz has always been a wonderful servant, leading the team very well. However, we know Sarfaraz is not getting any younger, and at some point, we need to start exploring and offering opportunities to other players,” Gillespie stated.
