Alvi honoured last time at Presidency

President Arif Alvi was given a farewell guard of honour at Aiwan-e-Sadr today.

Dr Arif Alvi’s constitutional term competed as the country set to elect new president tomorrow.

The outgoing president was escorted to the salute dais who, after the national anthem, reviewed the guard of honour. The guard of honour was presented by the smartly turned out contingents of the armed forces.

Dr Arif Alvi took oath of the office succeeding Mamnoon Hussain on Sept 9, 2018 after the PTI came to power.

13th President Arif Alvi served with two governments and appeared to be proactive after the ouster of Imran Khan through a no-confidence move in 2022. He refused to administer the oath of PM to Shehbaz Sharif.

Last year, the president had found himself in controversy when according to him he did not sign a legislation and it became a law.

The said legislation involved two bills, the Official Secrets Act Amendment Bill 2023 and the Pakistan Army Amendment Bill 2023.
