Authorities revoke permit for PTI’s rally in Islamabad today

06 July, 2024 09:49

The district administration had revoked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)’s permission to hold a rally on July 6 in Islamabad, said police warning of “legal action against anyone who violated the decision”.

The announcement came as PTI was preparing to hold the rally to protest the tax-laden budget presented last month.

The administration said that the move was made to “ensure public safety”.

The decision was taken during a meeting chaired by the chief commissioner who discussed concerns over public security and the observance of Muharram.

“The safety and security of the public was their top priority,” the administration said after the meeting.

On Thursday, the district administration granted permission to Imran Khan-led party for a political rally in Turnol, Islamabad.

According to the party’s social media platforms, the PTI leadership was preparing for the rally and calling upon its supporters to turn up in big numbers for the public gathering.

“Come out for Haqeeqi Azadi tomorrow and for Imran Khan’s release,” PTI leader Shoaib Shaheen said in a video statement shared by the PTI on social media.

He expressed hope that people from all over the country will turn out in big numbers.
