Babar Azam to remain Pakistan captain after World Cup

13 June, 2024 17:51

Despite putting on a below-par performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup, batter Babar Azam will Pakistan captain after the tournament.

A major cleanup is in order as announced by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi as six players are reportedly on radar of being dropped from the side.

The Men in Green have suffered two losses in the World Cup against the United States and arch-rivals India.

The team also struggled in their match against Canada as well on June 11 and were only able to chase down the 107-run target in 17.3 overs.

However, they are on the brink of World Cup exit as their progress into the Super 8 stage depends on the outcome of others teams’ matches, which are going to be affected by rain.

If USA beat Ireland or in case of a washout game, Pakistan will be on their way home. The only thing that can favour Pakistan in Ireland’s victory in the game.

Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who was furious with after India defeat, has changed his strong stance a bit and urged the nation to support the cricket team during the tournament.

“The consultation is ongoing and it is not appropriate to discuss [the matter] further at this juncture,” Naqvi told Geo News.

He earlier said that the team’s poor performance indicated that it required a “major surgery”.

“It seemed that a minor surgery would work but after this bad performance, I’m now sure that a major surgery is required. The nation will soon see a major overhaul,” he said.
