ISLAMABAD: Former Army Chief General (Retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa and former DG ISI Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed have bluntly denied the statement of Maulana Fazlur Rehman.

Sources close to ex-army chief and ex-DG ISI have refuted Maulana’s statement and said that the JUI-F Ameer should first get his facts straight because General Faiz Hameed had left ISI months before the tabling of the no-confidence motion.

Maulana Sahib has forgotten that General Faiz was the Corps Commander Peshawar when the no-confidence motion was brought against Imran Khan.

They further said that General Faiz had left Islamabad in November 2021.

A source close to General Bajwa said that the former army chief had met Maulana Fazl twice.

First meeting took place when Maulana went to meet the then Army Chief at the time when he was staging a long march against Imran Khan. It is believed that the said meeting was unpleasant.

General Bajwa’s second meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman was held on March 26, 2022 in the presence of many other opposition leaders including Shehbaz Sharif, Bilawal Bhutto, Akhtar Mengal, Shah Zain Bugti and Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui. An important General was also present in the meeting.

The sources further said that the two army generals had met the opposition parties on the instructions of the then prime minister Imran Khan as he wanted to stop the no-confidence motion against him.
