Baloch Yakjehti Committee ended month long sit-in outside National Press Club
The Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) along with Baloch protesters, ended their a month long sit-in on Tuesday.
The Baloch families and activists were protesting against “enforced disappearances and extra-judicial killings” outside Islamabad’s National Press Club (NPC) from December 22, 2023.
Dr Mahrang Baloch , the BYC protest organiser posted on X, ” Tomorrow we are going back to Balochistan from Islamabad with pain, suffering and anti Baloch attitudes of Islamabad. It is our promise to our people and the land that we will defeat this imperialist system from our land with the power of the people.”
In a press conference today, Dr Mahrang Baloch said, “It is a shame that despite election campaigns being under way, no political party has spoken about the issue of missing persons.”
A day earlier, Islamabad’s National Press Club submitted a complaint with the Kohsar Police Station requesting to remove the Baloch protesters camp from the open park in front of the NPC.
Upon severe criticism the NPC later withdrew its request from Islamabad Police owing to “misunderstanding”.
The NPC said it had always given a platform to Baloch protesters and yesterday’s letter did not have intentions to hurt anyone or “take a particular stance”.
