KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a new weather forecast for Karachi.

The port city experienced drizzling and light to moderate rain on Thursday and Friday, with the effects of the monsoon system expected to intensify starting from Friday.

PMD said that Karachi is likely to see one or two spells of heavy rains in from August 4 to 7.

The weather department has cautioned that parts of the metropolis may experience rainfall between 40mm to 60mm, with some areas likely to see record rainfall of 100mm during the upcoming spell.

Earlier, the PMD had forecast moderate to torrential rains in Karachi from August 3 to 5. Heavy rain showers lashed different areas of Karachi on Wednesday night, inundating low-lying areas of the port city.

The Met Office has also predicted rain showers with lightning in different areas of Sindh, with strong monsoon winds entering from Rajasthan and the Arabian Sea likely to influence the region from Friday.

Low-lying areas of Sindh are at risk of flooding due to heavy rains, while Kirthar, rivers, and nullahs in mountainous regions of Balochistan are also at risk of flooding.

Additionally, Daddu, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, and Jamshoro may face flash floods due to heavy rains. Residents are advised to take necessary precautions and stay informed about weather updates.
