Court rejects Sarim Burney’s bail in human smuggling case

KARACHI: A local court in Karachi on Wednesday rejected bail plea of Sarim Burney, accused of human smuggling and document forgery.

The court announced the verdict reserved yesterday.

This is the second time Burney’s bail plea has been rejected and he is currently in jail on judicial remand.

Earlier, on July 6,,the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had arrested renowned social activist Sarim Burney from Karachi airport.

According to sources inside the agency, there were very serious allegations against Sarim Barni, and his movement was being monitored for a very long time.

Following allegations of child smuggling, the Sindh government had decided to take over the control of the Sarim Burney Trust.

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had said that Sarim Burney has admitted a mistake in his initial statement in the human trafficking case.

The first FIR 26/2024 had been registered against the social leader and head of Burney Welfare Trust Saram Barni with the human trafficking cell of FIA on charges of trafficking of children from Pakistan to the US.
