Cyclonic storm: Karachiites urged to avoid ‘unnecessary movement’ amid heavy rain forecast

Sindh is in the grip of monsoon system as the meteorological department has predicted the cyclone formation in the coastal belt by tonight or tomorrow morning and in this connection an high alert of cyclone has also been issued. Heavy rain is likely in Karachi and other parts of Sindh are under the influence of the system.

The Meteorological Department has issued a second tropical cyclone alert.

According to the Meteorological Department, the deep depression is present over Rann of Katch and adjacent areas. The system is slowly moving towards west and south-west, however, during the last 12 hours the progress of this system has been very slow. This system is 250 km east and south-east of Karachi.

The weather department said that this system will continue to move towards the west and south-west and it may enter the northeastern Arabian Sea by tomorrow morning. As a result, the tides will get high in the sea. Winds up to 70 kilometers per hour are blowing currently in the sea.

The department  added that the Sindh fishermen have been instructed not to go into the deep sea till August 31 while those in Balochistan should also not go into the deep sea till September 1.

Chief Meteorologist Sardar Sarfraz said the system may maintain its intensity and approach the northeast Arabian Sea and adjacent Sindh coastline by tonight or tomorrow morning, where it may become a short-lived tropical cyclone due to favorable weather conditions. which will be named Asna.

The meteorologist further said that the name of the typhoon proposed by Pakistan is Asna meaning ‘higher’ as it is very unusual for a typhoon to form in the monsoon.

Under the influence of the system, heavy rain is likely to occur in Karachi till August 31. Apart from this, other districts of Sindh, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Sajawal, Tharparkar, Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad and Mirpurkhas are also likely to receive heavy rain till August 31.

Heavy rain is expected in different districts of Balochistan today from August 30 to September 1. Heavy rain is also expected in Hub, Lasbela, Awaran, Kech and Gwadar till September 1.
