Deadline expires: Hafiz Naeem announces new anti-govt movement from October

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has said that the Jamaat-e-Islami is launching a new movement on completion of 45 days given to the government. Large demonstrations will be held in different cities from September 29. One week from October 1 to 7 will be named after the people of Gaza and Lebanon, he added.

He said that after October 7, under a new resistance movement sit-ins and rallies would be held. From October 23 to 27, masses will be contacted to hold a referendum in which the people will decide whether to pay the upcoming bills or not.

Holding a press conference in Mansoora, Hafiz Naeem said that he is announcing the second phase of Jamaat-e-Islami’s “Haq Do Tehreek”. It is a movement to give rights and relief to the people, it is a movement against electricity bills, petrol prices, taxes on salaries.

Hafiz Naeem said that the government ministers should be given smaller vehicles and privileges should be abolished. IPPs are being paid billions of rupees annually, the electricity is generated but not utilised, for which the public is paying the price. He added that tax is being collected from the salaried class and some IPPs were exempted from income tax.

The JI chief said that the nation is paying bills in the form of inflation, flour, sugar, electricity bills. Taxes are imposed to give tax exemption to landlords and IPPs. Children are not getting health facilities.

He further said that the government made an agreement as a result of Jamaat-e-Islami’s protest that all the conditions will be fulfilled in 45 days. The government said that it will prepare the reports of IPPs which will give relief to the people. During this time, Jamaat-e-Islami did not sit at home, but continued to communicate with the government and participated in 8 rallies.
