15 July, 2024 20:40

Former US president Donald Trump said that he was “supposed to be dead” after surviving an assassination attempt which he described as a “very surreal experience.”

“I’m not supposed to be here, I’m supposed to be dead,” Trump told the Post in an interview aboard his plane en route to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention where he is set to be confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate.

It was a “very surreal experience” he recounted with a white bandage covering his right ear, the paper said.

The 78-year-old Trump was hit in the ear by a gunman at a campaign rally on Saturday.

Following the attack, US President Joe Biden has condemned the attack on former president Donald Trump at an election rally.

The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, was injured in the attack during the election rally, but his life is safe, while the person who shot Trump was killed.

Donald Trump was on stage to address the participants of a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania when the shooting happened. During the speech, Trump bent down as the shots rang out and the rally was stampeded.

Trump’s campaign team said in a statement he is “fine”.

“President Trump thanks law enforcement and first responders for their quick action during this heinous act,” spokesman Steven Cheung said.
