Election results changed on Feb 9: Allama Nasir

05 March, 2024 12:11

Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen MWM chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas has said that the people voted on February 8 but the results were changed on February 9.

Pakistan’s election has become a question mark all over the world, he added.

MWM chief Allama Raja Nasir Abbas speaking to the media at the Islamabad High Court said that the election is a constitutional requirement of Pakistan. The Constitution gives people the right to choose their representatives.

Allama Nasir Abbas further said that the Election Commission of Pakistan had failed to conduct a fair and transparent election. Not giving reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf is an injustice, he added.

Yesterday, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) ruled that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC) is ineligible for being allotted reserved seats of women and minorities.

The ECP issued the reserved decision regarding the reserved seats to the Sunni Ittehad Council. The issue of reserved seats came to light after the independent candidates of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf joined the Sunni Ittehad Council for obtaining reserved seats.

The electoral body announced the split decision with a 4-1 majority.

The Election Commission rejected the request of the Sunni Ittehad Council for reserved seats in the ratio of four to one. ECP’s member Punjab Babar Hasan Bharwana has written a sole dissenting note.

The Election Commission passed the decision under Clause 6 of Article 53 of the Constitution, Section 104 of the Election Act.
