US Actress Joy Harmon Dies at 87

Joy Harmon US actress, recognized her for her remarkable role as Lucille in the 1967 in Cool Hand Luke, died at 87 on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, at her home in the Los Angeles area.

Her death news confirmed from TMZ, her family member share, she spent more than a week in the hospital, then several weeks at a rehabilitation center. She lived her last days in hospital care surrounded by loved ones. Her family said she likely to make a full recovery and return to work at her bakery, Aunt Joy’s Cakes, in Burbank.

Joy Harmon got her lasting fame for iconic car wash scene alongside Pual Newnam. Despite this role, her career overextended many years, began as child model, after that she got a finalist in the Miss Connecticut pageant and eventually making her Broadway debut at just 18.

Joy revolution in Hollywood happened after becoming a part of Groucho Marx’s quiz show, ‘You Bet Your Life”. Later become a regular on “Tell It To Groucho” and shown in a films including “Village of the Giants” and “Angel in My Pocket.”

She also appeared as a gust spot in 1960s and 1970s popular programs like “Batman”, “Bewitched”, “The Monkey”, and “The Odd Couple”. Her last appearance in the sitcom “Thicker than Water” in 1977.

Harmon leave his acting career due to raise her children, with her ex-husband editor Jeff Goyrson. After her time in entertainment, she opened her bakery in 2003, where she became known for engaging with fans and signing autographs.

Her family told TMZ in a statement following her passing, “Joy was a positive thinker full of life and vibrancy, and certainly had no problem spreading joy throughout her life.”
