Taylor Swift Reveals Secret Meanings in Toy Story 5 Song Lyrics

Taylor Swift has opened up about the hidden meanings behind I Knew It, I Knew You, the song she co-wrote with Jack Antonoff for Toy Story 5.

During a rare appearance on country radio’s iHeartCountry House Party on Saturday, September 5, Swift explained how she carefully used words with more than one meaning in the song. She said she enjoys seeing fans closely examine her lyrics and discover details that may not be obvious at first.

Swift highlighted the song’s opening lines, which mention “the daze of the blades of the grass in summer” and “parachutes for the free fall of being younger.”

She explained that the word “daze” was intentionally written to also suggest “days.” According to Swift, the line reflects the way people remember childhood — as a beautiful but slightly blurry memory. At the same time, it connects to the tiny toy characters in the Toy Story world, who see grass blades as much larger than humans do.

Swift also explained the meaning behind the “parachutes” reference. It points to the plastic army-man toys in the franchise, while also symbolising someone who helps another person through the difficult transition from childhood to adulthood.

The singer said using small details and multiple meanings is an important part of her songwriting style. I Knew It, I Knew You features on the soundtrack of Toy Story 5, which was released in cinemas in June.
