RAWALPINDI: Former intelligence chief Lt General (retd) Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement on Monday.

“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City Case made against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed,” the military’s media wing said.

“Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.”

“In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the ISPR further said.

A high-level inquiry committee led by a major general was established by the Pakistan Army earlier in April of this year to investigate the claims made against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz about his alleged misuse of power while serving as the director general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

According to those familiar with the development, the inquiry was launched in compliance with Supreme Court instructions and in light of Ministry of Defence guidelines.

Against Gen. Faiz, who resigned in November 2022, four months ahead of his retirement date, this is the first official investigation that has been requested.
