FM evinces interest to work on projects linking Central Asia with Pakistan.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi was speaking at a meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon along with Foreign Ministers of SCO member states in Dushanbe on Wednesday.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s interest to work with Central Asian Republics (CARs) on rail, road and energy projects, which would link Central Asia with Pakistan.

The Foreign Minister said China-Pakistan Economic Corridor provides an ideal opportunity in this regard.

He also spoke on the regional security situation.

Shah Mahmood emphasized that withdrawal of international forces from Afghanistan has opened new challenges and opportunities.

He expressed the hope that SCO would continue to play its due role in support of peace and reconciliation process in Afghanistan.

Moreover, the FM congratulated the Tajik President on successful stewardship of SCO under its Presidency.

During his presidency, new areas were identified to further strengthen cooperation under SCO.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi called for consistent support to the Afghan peace process as a shared responsibility.

He expressed these views in his separate meetings with his Uzbek counterpart Abdulaziz Kamilov, and Kazakh counterpart Mukhtar Tileuberdi.

They met on the sidelines of SCO Council of Foreign Ministers meeting in Dushanbe.
