FM says Iran’s action against Israel concluded unless Israel invites further retaliation

02 October, 2024 08:30

Iran has said the country’s military action against Israel has concluded.

Abbas Araqchi  made the remarks taking to social media platform X while elaborating on a missile attack by Iran Tuesday night against targets inside Israel.

He said that Tehran on Tuesday evening “exercised self-defense” under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He added that Iran targeted solely military and security sites in charge of genocide in Gaza and Lebanon.

Araqchi further said that Iran took the action after exercising tremendous restraint for almost two months, to give space for a ceasefire in Gaza.

The foreign minister said that Iran’s action was concluded unless the enemy (Israel) would decide to invite further retaliation, a scenario in which Tehran’s response would be stronger and more powerful.

He said that Israel’s enablers now have a heightened responsibility to rein in the warmongers in Tel Aviv instead of getting involved in their folly.

Earlier, Iran fired a salvo of ballistic missiles at Israel on Tuesday in retaliation for Israel’s strikes in Lebanon.

Alarms sounded across Israel and explosions could be heard in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley after Israelis piled into bomb shelters.

Reporters on state television lay flat on the ground during live broadcasts.

Reuters journalists saw missiles intercepted in the airspace of neighbouring Jordan. As many as 200 missiles had been launched.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said on Tuesday they launched tens of missiles toward Israel and warned that if Israel retaliated Tehran’s response would be “more crushing and ruinous”, Iranian state TV reported.
