Germany suspends visa services in THIS Pakistani city

08 July, 2024 21:04

KARACHI: The German consulate in Karachi, Pakistan, has temporarily suspended its services for individuals who are not citizens of the European Union (EU), citing “imminent security concerns.”

According to a statement released by the consulate, the suspension of services will affect non-EU citizens seeking visas, passports, and other consular services.

However, already issued visas for non-EU citizens can still be collected. The consulate’s spokesperson, Aisha Abdul Qayyum, declined to provide further details on the nature of the security concerns.

The suspension of services for non-EU citizens is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of consulate staff and visitors. The consulate will likely resume services once the security concerns have been addressed.

Pakistan has experienced an uptick in militant attacks since the TTP called off their fragile truce with the government in November 2022.

The western provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have borne the brunt of these attacks, with insurgents targeting Chinese nationals working on projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
