Google fires employee for protesting against Israel military

Google has fired its employee who publicly protested against the company’s work for Israel military.

The Google Cloud engineer, during a presentation, shouted that he “refuse to build technology that powers genocide or surveillance”.

The search engine giant also confirmed the development saying “this behavior is not okay”.

“Earlier this week, an employee disrupted a coworker who was giving a presentation — interfering with an official company-sponsored event,” Google spokesperson Bailey Tomson told CNBC. “This behavior is not okay, regardless of the issue, and the employee was terminated for violating our policies.”

The video of his out-loud protest was also shared on X.

The incident occurred at Mind the Tech, an annual Israeli tech conference in New York.

The engineer, whose identity was not revealed, was protesting Project Nimbus.

The project is a $1.2 billion Israeli government contract for access to cloud services from Google and Amazon.

“Project Nimbus puts Palestinian community members in danger,” the employee said. “No cloud apartheid.”

He was escorted out of the presentation shortly after.

Since the war broke between the Israel and Hamas last October, about 600 employees signed a letter urging Google to stop sponsoring the Mind the Tech conference.
