ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Friday announced a support package worth Rs5 million for each family of missing persons.

This was announced by Federal Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar in a press conference.

The decision was made during a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad. The cabinet approved the package based on recommendations from previous committees on the issue of missing people.

Two reports on missing persons were presented to the cabinet, which also approved the formation of a special committee to examine genuine cases of families in need of support. The new committee will address the problems faced by the families of missing persons.

The law minister clarified that the assistance is not a remuneration but an attempt by the government to share the grief of the families and resolve their problems.

According to the law minister, 77% of missing persons’ cases have been addressed, leaving 23% pending. The government is committed to resolving all issues of missing persons by utilizing all resources.
