Govt expands free WiFi service

21 June, 2024 20:52

In a move to enhance digital connectivity and public safety, the Punjab government, under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has expanded Lahore’s free Wi-Fi service from 100 points to 200 points.

The expanded service now covers areas such as Manga Mandi, Multan Road, Bund Road, Chuhng, Shahpur Kanjran, Sundar, Valencia, Maraka, and other regions, providing citizens with free emergency Wi-Fi access.

This initiative is part of the ‘digital Punjab’ vision, aiming to provide citizens with a reliable means of communication during emergencies. The free Wi-Fi service can be used to contact the police, family members, and access essential apps such as the Women Safety App, Punjab Police App, and WhatsApp.

Notably, the service is not available for entertainment apps like Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok, ensuring that the primary focus remains on public safety and emergency communication. Each free Wi-Fi device in Lahore has a range of up to 300 feet from the respective point, providing a reliable and extensive coverage area.

This development follows the Punjab government’s recent launch of its inaugural air ambulance service, further demonstrating its commitment to enhancing public services and infrastructure in the region.
