Govt imposes ban on Instagram due to This reason

Another country has blocked access to Instagram, a popular social media platform, without providing a reason.

According to the national communications authority in Turkey, Instagram has been blocked by a decision on the date of 02/08/2024. Many users in Turkey reported being unable to refresh their Instagram feed.

The block follows a statement by Fahrettin Altun, the Turkish presidency’s communications director, who accused Instagram of “impeding people from publishing messages of condolence” for Ismail Haniyeh, the political chief of Hamas, who was killed in Tehran on Wednesday.

Turkey has over 50 million Instagram users, and the decision has sparked widespread criticism on other social media platforms. Users mocked the block, sharing memes and jokes about the inconvenience.

This is not the first time Turkey has blocked access to social media sites. Wikipedia was blocked between 2017 and 2020 over articles alleging a link between the presidency and extremism.

In April, Meta suspended its Threads social network in Turkey following a decision by authorities to prevent information sharing with Instagram.
