Govt increases electricity tariff again to pleas IMF

The government made life more difficult for the people suffering from inflation and made electricity more expensive to please the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

According to reports, the price of electricity has been increased by Rs3.32 per unit, which will be applicable from this month.

A formal notification in this regard has also been issued by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA).

Earlier in the day, the power regulator had sent a summary to the federal government to increase the basic tariff of electricity by Rs 5.72 per unit.

Nepra had decided to increase the basic tariff of electricity for the financial year 2024-25 and decided to implement the increase in electricity tariff from July 1, 2024.

Sources further said that the authority had approved the average basic tariff of electricity from Rs 29.78 to Rs 35.50 per unit while the federal cabinet’s decision was sent to NEPRA for a uniform tariff.
