Gulf countries to sight Ramadan 2024 crescent on Sunday

09 March, 2024 15:49

Gulf countries are expecting to sight crescent moon of Ramadan 2024 by Sunday evening, local media reported Saturday.

The crescent of Ramadan for this year is expected to be visible on March 10, 2024, which will correspond to the twenty-ninth of the current month of Shaban.

The Saudi Supreme Court and the UAE moon sighting committee requested residents to look for the crescent moon and they have established a help-lined contact +97126921166, if Muslims across both countries spot the crescent.

Meanwhile, in Saudi Arabia, the moon sighting committee is also expecting to spot Ramadan’s crescent on Sunday.

They said that the crescent moon can be sighted with the naked eye.

Eid al-Fitr, which marks the end of the holy month, is expected to fall on or around April 10.

Meanwhile in Pakistan, the Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted that the Ramadan moon will be born at 2pm on March 10 (Sunday) and its age will be more than 28 hours on March 11, at the time of sighting.

PMD added that the age of the moon, therefore, strengthens the chances of its sighting on Monday.

As per tradition, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee would convene in Islamabad — with zonal committees meeting in their respective domains — to receive and assess moon sighting reports and announce the sighting of the moon.
