Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has said that the electricity bills should be reduced in any case and asked the prime minister to tell how a person can run his house with Rs37,000 a month.

Addressing the ongoing sit-in in Rawalpindi today, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said that no one wants to leave their homes and sit on the streets. When the parliament and institutions are not working, it is our right to protest under the constitution. In the current situation, there is no other way than peaceful political struggle, he added.

The JI chief said that the electricity bills are not only the problem of Jamaat-e-Islami but the whole country. Electricity bills should be reduced. How will a poor man pay the price of electricity? Shehbaz Sharif, tell me how a person can run his house with a minimum wage of Rs37,000 a month.

He further said that landlords and capitalists are making our decisions. The salaried class in Pakistan is paying more taxes than in India. There is an only way for the poor of the country to be part of the protest of Jamaat-e-Islami. Sudents, lawyers,  traders and industrialists are requested to be a part of this movement.

The JI chief said that the contracts of IPPs were hidden from the nation as their capacity charges have become more than the defence budget.

It should be remembered that Jamaat-e-Islami is staging a sit-in at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi against inflation and heavy taxes in electricity bills and it entered the third day today. A large number of workers are present at the site of the sit-in.
