Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has refused to be a part of the Grand Alliance of the opposition.

Speaking on a local TV show, the JI chief said that they will take a proactive stance on some commonalities with the opposition and will also hold meetings but will not be part of any alliance.

He further said that the parties involved in the alliance make their “setting” later.

The JI leader said that the government thought that we would sit down for a day or two and leave. I want to tell the government that we have come here to get our demands fulfilled, he added.

It should be remembered that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Asad Qaiser, while talking to the national media after meeting the PTI founder in Adiala Jail, announced that in the next two weeks, he is going to form a grand alliance of the opposition, in which all opposition parties will be included. He aso supported the sit-in of Jamaat-e-Islami.

Yesterday,  Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has indicated to convert the sit-in into a movement to oust the government if the demands of termination of contracts with IPPs and reduction of electricity prices are not met.

While addressing a press conference, Hafiz Naeem said that the demands made by Jamaat-e-Islami are based on reality.

He said that the government has been requested to show the contracts with the IPPs. Money is being collected for the electricity that has not been generated and billions of rupees are being minted in the form of contracts, he added.

Hafiz Naeem further said that the sit-in will not end until the IPPs contract is revised. When you stop your free petrol, electricity and leave big vehicles then the situation will improve. The salaried class has deposited a large part of the tax while the landlords are not being taxed, he added.
