IIOJK observes Burhan Wani’s eight martyrdom anniversary

Burhan Muzaffar Wani, a symbol of resistance and hope, is being remembered on his eight martyrdom anniversary as Indian Illegally Occupied Azad Jammu and Kashmir observed a complete shutter down strike.

Detained Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference Masarat Alam Butt has paid tribute to martyred Burhan Wani and his associates on their eight anniversary.

In his message from Tihar Jail, he urged the Kashmiris to organize protest rallies, seminars and other programmes to pay tributes to Burhan Wani and his companions, who lit the candle of Kashmir’s freedom movement with their blood.

Pprotest rallies will be taken out in all districts by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Commission, Pasban-e-Hurriyat other Hurriyat organizations. Apart from that, a protest rally will be taken out from Burhan Muzaffar Wani Chowk.

About Burhan Muzaffar Wani

He was born on September 19, 1994, in Dadasar village of Pulwama and joined Hizbul Mujahideen at the age of 16.

His decision to join the group came after alleged harassment by Indian security forces.

Wani gained significant popularity among Kashmiri youth through social media. In August 2015, the Indian government placed a bounty of 1 million rupees on him.

Indian forces martyred Wani in Kokernag on July 8, 2016. His funeral was attended by over 200,000 people.

His death sparked widespread protests in Kashmir, leading to a 53-day curfew and the death of more than 100 Kashmiri youths in violent demonstrations.
