In absentia funeral prayers offered for Ismail Haniyeh across Pakistan

KARACHI: Funeral prayers in absentia was offered for martyred Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh in different cities of Pakistan including Karachi.

Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran on Wednesday morning, the Palestinian resistance group said.

In a statement, the group said their leader was killed in “a treacherous Zionist raid on his residence in Tehran”.

The Hamas chief and one of his bodyguards were killed when the building they were staying in was attacked, reports quoting a statement from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said.

In Karachi, the funeral prayer of Haniyeh was offered on New M.A. Jinnah Road, with a large crowd participating.

The attendees chanted slogans against Israel and held Palestinian flags.

Meanwhile, the Palestine Foundation organized a protest at Karachi’s Fawara Chowk, with a rally moving from the chowk to Karachi Press Club, led by Palestine Foundation Pakistan leader Dr Sabir Abu Maryam.

Protesters stated that Haniyeh had always sought martyrdom and had sacrificed his life for the Palestinian cause.

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has expressed deep regret over the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in an Israeli missile attack.

According to media reports, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei has reacted and said that it is our duty to avenge the blood of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

Khamenei further said that the Zionists have given us a basis to punish them severely by doing this.

Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, while reacting to the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the Israeli attack, said that he would avenge the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh.
