Indian court rules on Muslim man, Hindu woman’s marriage
An Indian court ruled the marriage of a Muslim man and a Hindu woman as illegal.
According to India media report, the high court of Madhya Pradesh declared the marriage of a Muslim man to a Hindu woman as illegal.
It added that the court has invalidated the relationship of a Muslim man with a Hindu woman under the Muslim Personal Law. The court has also rejected the request for police protection to register an inter-faith relationship under the Special Marriage Act, 1954.
The high court remarked that a relationship between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman cannot be considered an ‘irregular’ relationship even under Muslim law and even if it is under the Special Marriage Act.
Earlier, the Indian court had issued an order on May 27, in which it was said that according to the Muslim law (Mahomedan law), a Hindu woman who worships idols or fire cannot have a relationship with a Muslim man. Islam does not allow a Muslim man to have relationship with an idolatrous woman.
According to the court decision, the relationship between a Muslim man and a Hindu woman, in which both adhere to the principles of their respective religions after marriage, cannot be considered correct.
