Iran’s new president, Masoud Pezeshkian, signed on Wednesday over a dozen agreements with Iraq during his first visit to the neighbouring country.

“Fourteen cooperation memorandums were signed between Iran and Iraq, which is the starting point of the expansion of cooperation,” Pezeshkian said, standing alongside Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani.

Speaking at a joint press conference, Pezeshkian said the agreements “mark the beginning of expanded cooperation” between the two neighboring countries.

He emphasized the importance of implementing security cooperation agreements between the two nations “to combat terrorism.”

“If we stand together, we can take significant steps. This trip is a great opportunity to share our perspectives and take the next steps within the framework of the signed agreements and understandings,” he said.

“The crimes of the Zionist regime in Gaza expose the falsehood of Western countries and international organizations when it comes to human rights,” Pezeshkian said
