Israel lost deterrence power after Hezbollah’s attack: Iran

26 August, 2024 18:38

Iran’s foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani on Monday praised the drone and missile assault by Lebanon’s Hezbollah group on Israel.

“The Zionist regime may be able to hide, distort or censor some facts regarding Lebanese Hezbollah operations, but it knows very well that the existing facts will not change,” he posted on X.

“Hezbollah attack extended deep into the occupied territories”, he said, adding that the “strategic balance has undergone fundamental changes” to the detriment of Israel.

He also criticised the US for its comprehensive support for Israel, which had failed to predict the time and place of Hezbollah’s actions.

At least 40,435 people have been martyred in the war between Israel and Palestinian fighters since Oct 7, the health ministry in Hamas-run Gaza said Monday.

The toll includes 30 deaths in the previous 24 hours, according to ministry figures.

Meanwhile, Hamas has rejected new Israeli conditions for Gaza ceasefire, as the dialogue ended without breakthrough in Egypt capital Cairo.

The delegation of the Palestinian group left the city on Sunday after meeting with mediators casting further doubt on the chances of a breakthrough in the latest United States-backed effort to end the 10-month-old war.

Reuters also confirmed the development stating that talks ended without an agreement with neither Hamas nor Israel agreeing to compromises proposed by mediators.

Key sticking points in the talks mediated by the United States, Egypt and Qatar include an Israeli presence in the Philadelphi Corridor, a narrow 14.5km-long (9-mile-long) stretch of land along Gaza’s southern border with Egypt.

Hamas’s delegation demanded that Israel be bound by what was agreed upon on July 2, in accordance with a plan laid out by US President Joe Biden and a UN Security Council resolution.
