It’s sizzling: Karachi records hottest day of the year

Karachi’s temperature reached a record breaking point on Monday after the mercury hit 43°C.

The locality of Gulistan-e-Johar emerged as the hottest spot in the port city, with temperatures rising to 43.7 degrees Celsius.

The area around the airport was the second hottest, recording a temperature of 42.8 degrees Celsius, whereas temperature near Shahrah-e-Faisal was recorded at 40.5 degrees.

The Met Office has warned that the weather will remain hot and humid in the city for three days.

“Karachi will remain under the grip of extremely hot and humid weather for the next three days. During this time, sea breeze will remain blocked during the day,” said Sardar Sarfraz.

The weather department has further advised citizens to take precautions as the city is going through a partial heat wave.

Mysterious deaths

In unusual turn of events, as many as 17 bodies have been found in the country’s financial hub Karachi in the past 24 hours.

The rescue officials said that bodies were found in Jama Cloth Market, Golimar, Super Highway, Gulistan-e-Johar, Federal B Area and Landhi, KMC ground Lyari, Golimar, Jahangir Road, Landhi, Godam Chowrangi, Defense Phase 7, Orangi Town Sector 15, and Khamiso Goth, while a tortured body was found near Surjani Town’s Fatima Society.

All the bodies have now been shifted to various morgues across the city.

Most of the individuals were believed to be drug addicts and died of extreme heatwave in the city, said a rescue official.
