After 51 years of marriage, Bollywood’s senior actress and politician Jaya Bachchan has opened up about the condition that Amitabh Bachchan had put before her for marriage.

According to Indian media, Jaya Bachchan recently appeared on her granddaughter’s podcast where she reminisced about her marriage with Amitabh Bachchan.

Jaya said that when Amitabh and she decided to get married, the actor told her that he doesn’t want a wife who works outside the home for 5 to 9 hours a day. But, I want my wife to give more time to her home and family, Jaya quoted Amitabh as saying.

The senior actress said that Amitabh Bachchan put a condition in front of her that if she wants to get married, she doesn’t have to go to work every day. We decided to get married in October, so before the wedding, after the success of our film ‘Zanjeer’, we were supposed to go on a holiday together to celebrate the success of the film, but Amitabh Bachchan’s parents did not allow us. Jaya continued that Amitabh Bachchan came to her and told there is a problem that his parents won’t allow them to go on a trip.

“We wanted to go on a trip together but we weren’t allowed to go together before we got married so we decided to get married in June instead of October so we can go on vacation together,” said the former Bollywood actress.

She further  said that Amitabh Bachchan talked to her father to get married early but he was not happy to hear this because her father was not in favoor of our marriage.

It should be noted that earlier in an interview given to the Indian media in 2014, Amitabh Bachchan had said that one thing he likes about Jaya is that after marriage she preferred home rather than films.

Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan married in June 1973 and the couple has a son Abhishek Bachchan and a daughter Shweta Bachchan.
