The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasted that Karachi might get much-needed relief from scorching heat as rain and thunderstorm are expected to lash out the port city today (Thursday) and Friday.

As per the forecast, the weather is likely to remain hot and humid in most parts of the county including Karachi, while winds, gusts and rain are also expected in some parts of the country.

The PMD also forecasted that “a possibility of a slight decrease in temperatures due to the restoration of sea breezes” in the provincial capital of Sindh.

Apart from this, Bhakkar 47, Dadu, Kot Addu 46, Khairpur 45, Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Dera Ismail Khan 44, Islamabad 43, Muzaffarabad 42, Karachi 40, Quetta and Gilgit recorded 37 degrees Celsius.

Jacobabad and Sibi recorded the highest temperature in the country at 48 degrees Celsius yesterday.

For the first time since 2015, Karachi’s temperature has touched 42°C in June while the intensity of the “feels like” temperature reached 51°C.

The adverse weather conditions have resulted in an increase in the number of heatstroke victims in the port city.

Earlier, the Met Office had predicted isolated heavy rainfall to hit various parts of Sindh, including Karachi, on Wednesday. In a statement on Tuesday, the PMD forecast a dust-thunderstorm or rain with isolated heavy rainfall from June 26 to July 1 in various parts of the Sindh province.

In its forecast, the Met office said, monsoon winds will enter Karachi from the Bay of Bengal and the Arabian Sea starting June 26.

“A low-pressure system currently present in Gujarat, India, is set to move towards Pakistan, bringing with it the much-needed rain,” it said.
