‘What’s happening?’: Kevin Pietersen questions standard of cricket in Pakistan

Former England player Kevin Pietersen expressed his concerns regarding the current situation of the Pakistan cricket team following their shocking defeat against Bangladesh in the first Rawalpindi Test.

Bangladesh on Sunday outclassed Pakistan winning the first Test match at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday.

After bowling out the Green Shirts at 146 in the second innings, Bangladeshi openers Zakir Hasan, 15*, and Sadhman Islam, 19* eased past the 30-run target, which was set by the Shan Masood-led side. The visitors achieved the target in mere 6.3 overs.

Bengal  Tigers’ win have made their way to history books as this is their first-ever victory against Pakistan in red-ball cricket.

Kevin Pietersen, who played Pakistan Super League (PSL) in the past, recalled his experience of playing with the local talent here before raising questions about the current situation of the sport in the country.

“What happened to cricket in Pakistan? When I played the PSL, the standard of that league was tremendous, the players had a very good work ethic and the youngsters on display were magic. What’s happening there?,” Pietersen wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

It is to noted that Kevin Pietersen represented Quetta Gladiators in two editions of the PSL in 2017 and 2018.

He represented the former champions in 27 matches.
