07 July, 2024 12:39

With the beginning of the new Islamic year, the process of changing the cover of the Kaaba was started.

In Masjid al-Haram, a ceremony was held to replace Kiswa (the cover of the Kaaba). The black covering of the Kaaba was moved from the factory.

According to the report, 20 million Riyals have been spent on covering of the Kaaba weighing 1300 kilograms, while 159 artisans participated in the preparation of the cover.

The covering of the Kaaba is made of 670 kg of pure silk. Quranic verses are engraved on the cover of the Kaaba with 120 kg of gold and 100 kg of silver.

The old Kiswa is being removed and replaced by a new one which consists of four separate sides and a door curtain. Each side will be raised separately to the top of the Kaaba in preparation for its unfolding over the old side.

The new Kiswa will be attached from above and the ropes of the old cloth will then be loosened.

The craftsmen and administrators worked at the King Abdulaziz Complex for Holy Kaaba Kiswa in Makkah.

The complex has separate departments for dyeing, machine-weaving, hand-weaving, printing, belts, gold-plating, sewing, and assembling.

The sewing and assembling department has the world’s largest sewing machine which is 16 meters long and runs on a computer system.

About 1,000 kilograms of raw silk is required for the production of the Kiswa. It also needed 120 kilograms of gold wire and and 100 kilograms of silver wire. The silk is dyed black at the complex,

The new Hijri year has begun today (July 7) in Saudi Arabia.
