Kohistan clerics ruled door to door election campaign from Women ‘un-Islamic’

Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUIF) led clerics in Kohistan area declared door to door election campaign for women and by women ‘un- Islamic’ for February 8 general elections.

A Seminary head Mufti Gul Shahzada said the fatwa against women’s election campaign was issued by 30 authorised religious scholars and endorsed by participants, including around 400 clerics from Kohistan region.

“If anybody votes against Islamic ideology, it means he is testifying to an untrue and biased statement, which is a grave sin and also against Islamic Shariah,” Mufti Gul Shahzada warned.

Mufti Gul Shahzada fatwa surfaced, when first time in the history of Kohistan three women candidates are contesting from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf supported two women candidate named as Tehmina Faheem (PK-31 Kohistan-I) and Momina Basit (PK-33 Kolai-Palas) and an independent Sannaya Sabeel (PK-33 Kolai-Palas).

Kohistan has been in the news for decades for the cases of honor killings (Kohistan video case 2012) viral photo honor killings of 2023 and tribal jirga system.
