Latest party position in National Assembly after SC verdict
ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Friday declared Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) eligible for seats reserved for women and minorities, dealing a significant blow to the ruling coalition’s majority in the lower house of Parliament.
The 13-member bench, headed by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, announced the verdict, which is expected to have far-reaching implications for the country’s political landscape.
Following the SC ruling, PTI is likely to secure 65 out of 77 reserved seats in the National Assembly and provincial assemblies.
This includes 23 seats in the National Assembly and 55 seats in the provincial assemblies.
The breakdown of PTI’s probable reserved seats is as follows: 27 seats in Punjab (24 women and 3 minorities), 25 seats in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (21 women and 4 minorities), and 3 seats in Sindh (2 women and 1 minority seat).
The ruling coalition, which previously enjoyed a two-thirds majority, will now be reduced to a simple majority with 210 seats in the lower house.
