‘Look towards parliament instead of SC’

06 March, 2024 11:08

Citizens should look towards parliament rather than the Supreme Court as laws enacted by their representatives are critical and long-lasting.

These views were expressed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa while addressing a dinner hosted by the Pakistan Bar Council in the honour of outgoing SC judge Justice Sardar Tariq Masood.

On the occasion, the CJP praised the role of the parliament in making of laws. He said that the laws enacted by the parliament should be appreciated unless they contradict the Constitution. Isa continued that the parliament is the institution that gave the country its Constitution.

He lauded the tradition of developing consensus on different issues through debate in the parliament. Justice Sardar Tariq Masood thanked the PBC for arranging the dinner and also Justice Qazi Faez Isa and other participants.

Justice Sardar Tariq Masood will retire on March 8 and a full court reference is scheduled in honour of Justice Tariq Masood on Friday. During the full court reference, Justice Masood’s contributions to the legal community and service as a judge will be recognized.
