Major General Babar Iftikhar named as new DG ISPR

Major General Babar Iftikhar named as new DG ISPR. Pakistan Army on Thursday announced his name as the new director-general of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

Major General Babar Iftikhar studied from the Quetta Law College. He graduated from the National Defense University (NDU) Islamabad. He also taught as a faculty member there later on.

Moreover, he also graduated from the Royal Jordanian Command and Staff College (RJCSC).

Maj Gen Iftikhar has vast experience in command, staff, and instruction.

He has served as a brigade major and brigade staff for an infantry division in North Waziristan.

During Operation Zarb-e-Azb, he also commanded the armoured and infantry brigades.

Apart from teaching at the NDU, the Maj Gen also taught at the Pakistan Military Academy.

He secured promotion when Pakistan Army Thursday promoted 37 brigadiers to the rank of major general following an approval by the promotion board in June 2018.

Meanwhile, Pak Army transferred Maj Gen Ghafoor to the 40th Infantry Division (Okara).
There, he ill serve as the general officer commanding (GOC).

Major General Asif Ghafoor was commissioned on 9 Sep 1988 in 87 Medium Regiment.
He is graduate of Command & Staff College Quetta, Command & Staff College Bandung (Indonesia) and NDU Islamabad.
Besides, he holds master’s degree in strategic studies.
Furthermore, he has served on various staff, instructional and command assignments.
His career include: Brigade Major Infantry Brigade, Assistant Military Secretary MS Branch, GHQ, Directing Staff Command & Staff College Quetta and Director Military Operations in Military Operations Directorate, GHQ.

He has commanded his parent unit in Operation Al-Mizan, Artillery Brigade on Line of Control, Infantry Brigade on Eastern Border and a Division at Swat, Malakand.
Maj Gen Asif Ghafoor had received COAS Commendation Card for operations in Bajaur during 2008.
He had served as DG ISPR since December 2016.
