Mumbai : Australia suffered a stunning three-wicket defeat to Afghanistan in Tuesday’s World Cup match.
Maxwell’s blistering 201 goal helped Australia snatch victory from a confident Afghanistan.

Australia defeated Afghanistan and advanced to the World Cup semi-finals.
The match between both teams was held at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai, India.
It was record-chasing and came after Australia were reduced to 91-7 in 19 overs after Afghanistan opted to bat first and posted a total of 291-5. When Maxwell sealed Australia’s victory with a six and also scored his 200th run, former New Zealand cricketer Ian Smith said on commentary: “It’s the most remarkable thing I’ve ever seen in cricket.” he shouted.
Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who won three World Cups, said Maxwell played an innings “without using his feet”.
“I’ve played a lot of cricket and watched a lot of cricket, but I’ve never seen anything like this,” Ponting said, stunned.
“You will never see anything like that again in international cricket,” he added.
Earlier, Afghanistan had set a target of 292 points against Australia. Ibrahim Zadran became the first Afghan player to score a goal in the Cricket World Cup in 100 years. Rashid Khan scored 35 off 18 balls.
