Met office issues fresh rains alert

The Pakistan Metrological Department on Monday issued a fresh rains alert with heavy downpour across Sindh across Karachi from August 26 to 29.

The met office it is forecast said that a strong low-pressure system currently present over central India has intensified, and is likely to enter eastern Sindh tonight or tomorrow morning.

The system is expected to intensify in Sindh, the PMD said.

From tonight until August 31, there is a possibility of heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms in Sindh.

During the period, other districts of the province may also experience heavy rainfall with strong winds and thunderstorms.

In Karachi, the city would receive intermittent rainfall with strong winds and thunderstorms in the aforementioned period.

The Kirthar range and mountainous areas of Balochistan are also expected to receive heavy downpours.

The heavy monsoon rainfall is likely to inundate the low-lying areas of Sindh, and the sea is expected to experience high tides during this period.

In view of the forecast, an emergency has been declared in the city, and all the staff of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation has had their leaves canceled.

The Mayor of Karachi, Murtaza Wahab, has directed the municipal services to remain on high alert.
