A prominent mobile phone manufacturing company has been accused of tax and duty evasion, resulting in billions of rupees in losses to the national exchequer, GTV News reported citing sources

According to sources, the customs authorities have launched an investigation against company Digicom, responsible for manufacturing QMobile in Pakistan, for allegedly evading taxes and duties on the import of mobile phone parts and accessories.

The customs authorities have initiated investigations and registered cases against accused for tax and duty evasion, say sources.

The company is accused of selling mobile phones without paying duties and taxes, causing significant losses to the national exchequer, it emerged.

Instead of paying the fines, QMobile has reportedly started operating through a new company to avoid legal action.

Sources inside the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) claimed that individuals involved in the fraud will be held accountable, and the case will be registered against them.

“Further investigation will reveal the involvement of a specific group and QMobile in money laundering, corruption, and other illegal activities,” said FBR official.
