13 July, 2024 19:30

The provincial government has announced that internet and mobile phone services would remain suspended in Quetta on Muharram 7 and 10 from 6am to 12am midnight.

Additionally, the provincial government has imposed Section 144 in seven districts as it ramps up security measures in Muharram.

Muharram began in Pakistan on July 8 with the sighting of the lunar month’s crescent in Pakistan.

Faithful hold processions and majalis across the country in Muharram, while religious scholars address huge gatherings amid tight security, with thousands of law enforcers deployed to ensure security.

Traffic plan issued

Earlier in the day, Karachi police have issued a traffic plan for three key days of Muharram to facilitate the smooth movement of the procession.

The government has also beefed up the security to ensure law and order during the three days – 8th, 9th and 10 of Muharram.

As per tradition, the central procession of Muharram would be taken out from Nishtar Park and would conclude at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah.

The police have barred small or large vehicles from entering to enter the procession route from Gurumandir Chowk.

All traffic would be diverted towards Bahadur Yar Jung Road and Soldier Bazaar.

Only, vehicles with stickers are permitted to enter the procession route from Society Light Signal, Shahrah-e-Quaideen.

MA Jinnah Road from Gurumandir to Tower would remain closed from Monday to Wednesday.
