The National Assembly (NA) has passed an amendment in the Budget 2024-25 to make significant raise in salaries and travel allowances of Pakistani lawmakers.

The amendment was presented by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader Abdul Qadir Patel, which was approved by majority votes despite the opposition protest.

The amendment to the Salary and Allowances Act is being implemented through the Finance Bill 2024-25.

After an increase of 150 per cent, now lawmaker will receive Rs25 per kilometer as compared to Rs 10 per kilometer.

Apart from that, unused annual airline tickets will now carry over to the following year instead of being canceled. They have also been increased from 25 to 30.

As for increment on salaries and other allowances, it would be decided by the finance committee of the National Assembly.

On Friday, the lower house approved the Federal Budget for the fiscal year 2024-25 with a total outlay of Rs18,870 billion.
