No NA session can be convened without notifying reserved seats: Gohar

27 February, 2024 11:15

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Barrister Gohar has said that National Assembly session cannot be called until the Elections Commission of Pakistan (ECP) notify reserved seats.

“The Punjab [Assembly] session was carried out in an illegal manner. The Sindh Assembly session was carried out in an illegal manner,” said Gohar while speaking to media in Islamabad.

“If the National Assembly session is called that will also be illegal because the assemblies should be convened after all the members of the House are notified.”

The PTI leader urged ECP to take notice of the matter and notify the reserved seats for the Sunni Ittehad Council, the new home for PTI-backed candidates.

He said that the people have given their mandate, and expressed hopes that the ECP would listen to “what the people voted for on Feb 8”.

“These reserved seats belong to SIC, no other political party can lay claim to them,” Gohar asserted.

It is worth mentioning that the Pakistan’s electoral body will holding an open hearing on the SIC’s plea seeking allocation of the reserved seats in the lower house of the Parliament.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the commission held on Monday with Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja in the chair.

The ECP will also hold a hearing about the petition, filed by convener MQM-P, against the proposed allocation of seats to the SIC.
