No set date for truce agreement amid ongoing talks: Hamas

04 March, 2024 08:39

Serious efforts are being made for an agreement to halt aggression, facilitate aid entry, and ensure the return of displaced people, particularly in the north, says a senior Hamas source.

Speaking to Al Jazeera, the source provided insights into the current status of negotiations aiming to cease hostilities in Gaza

He said that the goal also includes a complete withdrawal of the occupation. Currently, the Hamas delegation is in Cairo to have a meeting with Egyptian and Qatari counterparts, present the movement’s vision.

The source emphasized that the occupation delegation’s presence in Cairo is not a primary concern. Importantly, specific dates for reaching an agreement have not been officially announced, while the occupation’s approach to both field and negotiation battles is characterised by confusion and randomness.

Meanwhile, the ongoing ceasefire talks between Israel and Hamas in Cairo faced a roadblock as Israel reportedly boycotted the negotiations citing Hamas’ rejection of its demand for a comprehensive list identifying hostages still alive, according to an Israeli newspaper.
