Pakistani feared dead in Ajman factory fire

Search for a missing Pakistani worker, identified as Akbar, continues after fire erupted at a chemical factory in Ajman city, local media reported on Wednesday.

Overall, at least nine Pakistani were injured in the fire incident, which erupted on February 24. They are receiving treatments in various hospital across the UAE.

A delegation from the Pakistan Consulate in Dubai visited Zayed Hospital, Kuwaiti Hospital and Al Qassimi Hospital to assess the condition and treatment progress of some of the injured.

Their delegation was led by Community Welfare Attaché Imran Shahid.

According to the consulate, Akbar, a resident of Dera Ghazi Khan, was missing after the factory caught fire.

“Forensic analysis and DNA Tests are currently underway on a burnt human body recovered from the site of the incident, feared to be that of Akbar,” Consulate said in a statement.

The blaze erupted late Saturday at the factory that produced chemical products used to make sanitisers and perfumes, according to the Pakistani embassy in the UAE.

One of the injured is identified as Ijaz, who hails from Shaheed Benazirabad in Sindh, suffered 65 per cent burns and has been taken off the ventilator.

However, Doctors at Zayed Hospital (Sharjah) say that he has shown improvement.

The medical team is considering transferring Ijaz to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) Hospital in Abu Dhabi for specialised treatment.

Other injured Shahid remains critical at Al Kuwaiti Hospital in Sharjah, he suffered 55 per cent burns.  Zahoor is also hospitalised with 35 per cent burn injuries, and both patients are on ventilator support.

Sikandar is also critical condition with 60 per cent burn at Al Qassimi Hospital Sharjah. He is also reportedly being moved to SSMC Hospital Abu Dhabi.
