OpenAI delays ‘Voice Mode’ launch: Here’s why

26 June, 2024 20:53

In a recent update, OpenAI, the creator of ChatGPT, announced that it is pushing back the release of its highly-anticipated “voice mode” feature by a month to July, citing technical issues that need to be addressed.

Initially, the company had planned to roll out the realistic voice conversation experience to a small group of ChatGPT Plus users in late June.

However, OpenAI stated that it needs more time to meet its launch standards, ensuring a seamless and safe user experience.

In a social media post, OpenAI explained that it is working on improving the model’s ability to detect and refuse certain content, as well as enhancing the overall user experience.

The “voice mode” feature will initially be released to a small group of users to gather feedback, with plans to make it available to all Plus users in the fall, pending safety and reliability checks.

With “voice mode,” users will be able to speak to ChatGPT and receive real-time responses without delay, as well as interrupt the AI model while it is speaking – capabilities that have proven challenging for AI voice assistants to achieve.

In addition to “Voice Mode,” OpenAI is also working on introducing new video and screen-sharing capabilities to further enhance the user experience.
