Owner of vehicle used in Karachi airport attack identified

Record of the vehicle used to attack the Chinese nationals near Karachi airport has been found.

A major breakthrough has been made in the investigation into the suicide attack on the Chinese nationals, and investigative officials say they have found record of the vehicle and its owner.

The officials said that a rare record of the vehicle used in the suicide attack has been found. The details of the vehicle were obtained from its chassis number, which led to disclosure of the identity of owner identified as Fahad Shah, a resident of Naushki.

They further said that the scope of investigation has been widened to Balochistan.

Authorities said that the data of mobile SIMs registered with the name of Fahad Shah has also been obtained.

Earlier, three foreigners died and 17 others hurt in an explosion near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport on Sunday night.

Sindh Home Minister Zia ul Hassan Lanjar suspected the blast carried out though an improvised explosive device (IED).

Sources said  that the sound of the explosion was heard in different areas of the city, including Karimabad, Defence and Jamshed Road, with television footage showing massive thick clouds of smoke and a blazing fire from the site.

In a statement, Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) confirmed a huge explosion near the airport’s traffic signal.
